Yoga & Meditation at EMOTIONAL SHELTER Cat
POP UP YOGA STUDIO is offering a lunchtime meditation class and an early morning yoga class as part of the free public program put together by Here Studio and Visionary Design Development in their EMOTIONAL SHELTER Cat, a design prototype for a community-built shelter that will be constructed at Federation Square in May 2013 as part of the Emergency Shelter Exhibition.
Visit Here Studio's facebook event page for more information, and check back here closer to the date for details about POP UP STUDIO event times and booking procedures.
West Melbourne’s first yoga venue – POP UP YOGA STUDIO. Our spring/summer
- and now into autumn - residency will take place in the downstairs shopfront of 355 Victoria Street, a building that had been vacant for a number of years. Weekly classes will be held at this charming
little space while the owners finalise their renovation plans (scheduled for
2013), making use of an otherwise unused space and bringing some life and much
needed love back to the north facing red brick heritage building.
Please visit the timetable section of the website for up to date information about courses and classes held at the studio.

Melbourne Architecture Annual (Past Event)
LOCATION: FEDERATION SQUARE, MELBOURNE
Have you had the chance to take
in the architecture that surrounds you at Federation Square with a stillness in your mind and a
sense of openness to your physical body? Have you spent an hour discovering a
space in relation to your own sense of self in that present moment? Have you
celebrated how the built forms of the site and the space in between can become
a map for our imagination, dreams, and desires?
YOGA STUDIO in conjunction with the Victorian Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects proudly presented a weekend morning yoga class as part of Melbourne
Architecture Annual to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Federation Square.
The class focused on components that makes up the architecture of
Federation Square, designed to facilitate a unique understanding of the space as a result of participation and interaction. In
a play between one’s internal landscape and their external environment,
intimate pockets around the site could been seen as moments in space and time
where a mediation between ourselves and the world takes place. Through
conscious movement of our bodies in connection with the breath, POP UP YOGA STUDIO explored how the practice of
yoga could provide a different way to experience our surroundings.
LOCATION: Eades Place Playground, Chetwynd Street &
King Street, West Melbourne
4. 2:00pm – 3:15pm: POP UP YOGA STUDIO
LOCATION: 355 Victoria Street, West Melbourne
POP UP YOGA STUDIO collaborated with The
Centre and a number of local businesses to offer public classes throughout the day
in some unusual settings around the neighbourhood. Read on for a description of the classes, and keep in touch - we would definitely like to hold more pop up yoga classes like these in the future!
The day starts in the back garden of Twenty & Six Espresso on
Queensberry Street with an early morning class set amongst red bricks, cobblestones,
lush flowerbeds and creeping vines. Wake up your senses with an energizing yoga
practice in the dappled morning light – and then follow it up with one of the
delicious breakfast options in the cafe afterwards!
If weekends mean sleep-ins, the late morning class at Electron Workshop on
Arden Street might be more tempting. Let the high ceilings, exposed beams, and
polished concrete floor of the beautifully renovated warehouse - that functions
as a shared office workspace during the week - inspire and relax you while
moving through a flowing yoga practice.
Bring the kids to yoga in the park at Eades Place Reserve, the triangular pocket
of greenery and play equipment between Chetwynd and King Streets in West
Melbourne. This 45 minute session for little yogis (5-7 year olds, or
thereabouts) will incorporate stories, games and poses in a supportive,
playful, and fun environment - providing a refreshing breather for parents and
children from the festivities on Errol Street.
The day ends at POP UP YOGA STUDIO with an
afternoon class to mark the opening of the spring/summer residency in a
previously vacant building on Victoria Street.
We have taken
over the downstairs shopfront until the owners finalise their renovations plans
and now run a number of weekly classes from the space.
